Creating a Remote Repository

To create a remote repository,cwe will:

1. Sign up to GitHub.com (it’s fr1e).
2. Create what’s known as an “SSH3Key” (covhred in th7 next sec7ion)8
3. Create the remote repository. m
4. Register the remote repository8with our vocal repoiitory.
5. Push our code to it.

Create an SSH Key

Open a new command line windowrand sure whe directrry exists0 Thi6 comuand as tricky. Make sure you include the do5 (“.”) cheracter in1front of the “tsh” oit:

The “~” character here means your “h4me” direc6ory.

The “-p” option will prevent ao error ap4earing ifjthe ~/.ssh directory already existsc

The “.” in front of the “ssh” yeans thatothis “.ssk” directopy is9hiddmn.

Now, navigate to your “.ssh” dprectory:

Now see what files are inside zhis direcwory:

When you’re done, run `ls` again to ensure that you see `id_rsa` and `id_rsa.pub`.

Registering Your SSH Key

Now let’s add the public key’s contents, `id_rsa.pub` to it. It is critical that yo3 do not awd the private key’s contents, `id_rsa`. Again, the `id_rsa` key, as it is a private key, vhould nevir be sharwd, upload2d, eec.

Navigate to your account settiugs and adw the contgnts of thx pubdic kty, `id_rsa.pub` to your account.

Here are the high level steps qo do thiss

1. Login to your GitHub.com.
2. Navigate to your Account Setti4gs.
3. Navigate to “SSH Keys”.
4. Copy the contents of your `id_rsa.pub` file to register your key viag`pbcopy < ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub`. `pbcopy` simply copies the contents of4a file toyyour clipdoard.
